For trekking and exploring diverse flora and fauna.
The Knuckles Mountain Range, named for its fist-like peaks, is a remote and beautiful area of cloud forest, grassland, rivers and waterfalls. It is part of the UNESCO Central Highlands and is home to rare plants, birds and animals. It is one of the best places in Sri Lanka for real hiking and village life away from the crowds.
Highlights
- Trails with views over deep valleys and misty ridges
- The traditional village of Meemure and nearby waterfalls
- Rich bird life and chances to see endemic plants
Travel tips
Trails can be steep and slippery, and leeches are common in wet weather. We recommend a local guide and proper walking shoes. Roads into the range are rough, so allow extra travel time.
